Plaque Program
Sadie's House Plaque. The plaque program was begun in 1986 to promote pride and knowledge by the owners of historic homes in the North End. It was modeled after programs on the East Coast, such as those in Bristol and Providence, Rhode Island.

Before the program began, Matt Railey had published Sadie's House, A Guide to Researching Your Old House. The purpose of the book is to provide guidance to anyone interested in researching their homes. The book is in two parts. The first is the history of Sadie's House in narrative form, which is meant to be the example of what should be submitted to earn a plaque. The second part is meant to guide the homeowner through the process. It is hoped that the homeowner would also pay careful attention to the separate footnote portion, which provides examples of research that can be done.

There is no cost to participate in the program except for the cost of the plaque itself. This link is a pdf file version of the house plaque kit or you can download the Word version (revised April 2011).
